When the ad agency sponsored a couple of hot air balloons to display client's logos, Roger took an excursion into the realms of ballooning. With a few, what he termed interesting ballooning incidents, having to leap out of the basket before crashing into power cables and low flying over Loch Ness with Lt Col Blashford Snell for a television series about the Loch Ness Monster. Flying so low over Loch Ness that the basket filled with water! Plus an (interesting) ballooning trip to India at the invitation of Rajiv Ghandi, the then Prime Minister.

He met a real adventurer also with a balloon. The record breaking world traveller Nick Sanders. Nick held the Guinness Record for the fastest man to cycle round the world and the fastest man to motorcycle round the world. Since this time he has motorcycled round the world about eight times taking groups of bikers. Roger elected to help with the promotion of these trips going on a few himself as a back up. In 2004 riding from one end of India to the other on an Indian made Enfield which nearly crippled him. In 2006 riding from New York across the mid west to Death Valley, then North up to Canada and up through to the top of Alaska and back down to Chicago. Over 14,000 miles in just less than four weeks on a 15,00cc V- twin American Victory motorbike. Then two trips to the Sahara driving the backup vehicle. An attempt to get to Timbuktu was aborted at the last minute because of logistical problems, nevertheless Nick has since successfully taken groups of riders across the Western Sahara and through Mali to Timbuktu and back on a couple of expeditions. Some mean feat!
